Family arguing, violence, swearing, demons, religious imagery, atheism, gambling, smoking, and so much crude humor.
This chapter is particularly cruel by design. Yes, it’s meant to get the cheapest of laughs at the expense of others, but there’s also a reason for its cruelty near the end. A branch of my own family comes out of the hills, and while I see humor in some of my relatives, I’ve also seen the effects of poverty, isolation from others, and working for companies that do not care about the people doing the hardest work.
